Spring Family Night is a fun community event for Medina families on Friday, April 29th, 5:00pm - 7:30pm! Students can showcase their talents, culture, and science savvy through:

  • World Culture Fair (5-6pm) - prepare a presentation about your cultural heritage using a tri-fold board
  • Science Fair (5-6pm) - create a tri-fold board to present your STEM project
  • Egg Drop Challenge (5-6pm) - design and build a contraption to protect an egg from a high fall. 
  • Talent Show (6:15pm-7:30pm) - demonstrate your talent on-stage. Cultural performances encouraged!

World Culture Fair

 

Time: 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Location: Gym

 

Families are encouraged to showcase their cultural heritage in our World Culture Fair! There will be a popular vote for favorite presentations and the winners will be announced during the Talent Show. All participants will receive a recognition award. 

 

Details for the World Culture Fair

  • Sign up here by April 21st
  • You can work on your entry by yourself or with up to two partners.
  • Choose one or more topics - ex: history, holidays, fun facts - to share with the Medina community.
  • Create a tri-fold board to present your topic(s). Label the back of the board with your name(s) and grade(s). You may bring additional table-top cultural elements to supplement your tri-fold board, but these should all fit in front of your display board.
  • Please do not bring any food or drinks.
  • 4:00pm-4:45pm (tentative)- Check in with your tri-fold board and get set up
  • 5:00pm-6:00pm- Explain your tri-fold board to those attending the World Culture Fair Fair. Make sure to practice how you will explain your board to attendees, keeping your explanation to 2-3 minutes. Expect to give your presentation many times as different attendees walk through the World Culture Fair!
  • Reminder: World Culture Fair presentations should be prepared by the students as independently as possible.

Science fair

Let your scientific curiosity run wild, and present your science experiments, research projects, and STEM inventions to the Medina community! 

 

There will be a popular vote for favorite projects and the winners will be announced during the Talent Show. All participants will receive a recognition award. 

 

Details for the Science Fair

  • Sign up here by April 21st 
  • You may work on your project by yourself or with up to two partners.
  • Choose a STEM project. Here are some suggestions:
    • Science Experiment: Design and execute a science experiment with a hypotheses, experiment, and results.
    • Research Projects: Ask a question (e.g., is life on Mars possible?) and research your question.
    • STEM Invention: Find a problem and invent a device that solves the problem. (example problem: I can't see the back of my head when I fix my hair!)
  • Create a tri-fold board to present your STEM project. Label the back of the board with your name(s) and grade(s). You may bring additional items/inventions to supplement your presentation, but these should all fit on the table in front of your display board.

Egg Drop Challenge

Time: 5:00pm - 6:00 pm

Location: First Grade Balcony

 

 

The challenge is to create a container that will protect an egg from cracking or breaking from a high fall. You can make this as simple or complex as you want, but your container must comply with size and materials constraints! All participants will receive a recognition award!

 

Details for the Egg Drop Challenge

  • Sign up here by April 21st 
  • Make a container at home. Label with your name and grade. 
  • 4:00pm-4:45pm (tentative)- Check in with your (1) container loaded with (2) an egg. We will check that your device meets size and materials eligibility rules.
  • 5:00pm-6:00pm- Launch at first grade balcony by grade.
  • After you drop it, look and see if your egg cracked or remained intact. A cracked egg is defines as one that is visibly leaking its contents. (Remember to wash your hands after touching raw egg!)

We will provide tape, backup eggs, and hand sanitizer.

 

Device Eligibility Rules

 

Your container must be compliant with both size and materials rules:

  • Size: Your container must be no bigger than 12" x 12" x 12"
  • Materials:

 

YES Materials:

 

Plastics, Cardboard, Newspaper, Old boxes, Paper, Tape, Glue, Rubber bands, Popsicle sticks, Toothpicks, Baggies, Straws, Feathers, Cotton balls

 

NO Materials:

 

Parachute, Helium balloons, Bubble wrap, Styrofoam, Splatterables like peanut butter, liquids, fruits or veggies.

Talent Show

We are proud to bring Medina’s Talent Show back on the stage!

Are you ready for it?

 

Spring Family Night celebrates the cultural heritages of our diverse Medina community. Thus, we will showcase first and foremost performances that are culture themed: culinary art, martial art, calligraphy, poetry recital, folk music and dance, and more, that celebrates your culture.

 

We are also calling for group acts to be showcased: comedy skits, martial art demonstrations, gymnastics, magic show, dance ensemble, vocal and musical ensembles, science experimentation, paper plane flying contest, etc. That’s just a few examples to get your ideas flowing!

 

All other acts are welcomed!

Rules

  • Students from all grades K-5 are welcome to sign up 
  • Costumes and props are greatly encouraged
  • Solo acts must be 60 seconds or less
  • Group acts (2+ students) must be 90 seconds or less
  • Content and background music must be age appropriate

Important Dates

  • April 22 Friday (2:45-5:30pm): Tryout will be held after school at the cafeteria
  • April 27 Wednesday (12:30-3:00pm): Dress rehearsal will be held after school at the cafeteria. 
  • April 29 Friday 6:15-7:30 pm Spring Talent Show will be held at the cafeteria.
